Greetings and Happy 2019!!!

We hope each of you had a wonderful holiday season and have been enjoying the start of this new year. We took some time off from our newsletter in all of 2018 but we’re back.

We are sorry to say that Mark, our Operations Manager, is no longer with the company. We appreciate all his hard work and the support he gave to our clients. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. We are currently in the training process of our new hire and look forward to working together. Supplemental Insurance

When quoting a shipment, Carrier Rate will always provide the carriers max liability. Max liability is the total max they will cover in the event of damage. However, how this is calculated can be very tricky to understand. While a carrier may have $50,000 liability, based on the class of the item, the carrier may only pay out $3/lb…up to $50,000. So while it is covered for up to that much, in reality, if your item was a class 50 item worth $50,000 but only weighed 100 lbs, you may only receive $400 in payout from the carrier.

How can you protect yourself?

With so many carriers to choose from, each with their own individual tariffs and restrictions and fine print, you can always choose to add additional insurance. This additional insurance would cover the entire value of your freight, there would not be a per pound payout consideration or any similar limitations. Simply click the blue “Add Insurance” underneath the Carrier Maximum Liability column, and it will be added just like that. The additional insurance may add only $10 to your freight cost, but it’s worth the peace of mind.

Be sure to include the price of the freight costs with the cost of the freight itself. For example, if a piece of freight cost $5000 and the price to move it is $500 than you should add $5500 of additional insurance.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Last month Todd started his morning routine which starts with taking his dog Morgan out to go to the bathroom. While out on their walk, they made it to the corner and started to walk back. While on the walk back Todd noticed something a little odd on the ground. A closer inspection would reveal a baby bat. It appeared to have fallen out of what has to be at least a 30′ high palm tree. It was alive and moving and seemed to be ok. Feeling bad for the bat, Todd called a local wild animal rescue. He carefully gathered him and brought the poor little baby to a local wild animal shelter.

We are sad to report that the bat only survived a night and a half after Todd dropped it off. However he did make a donation to the center for the care and help support it.

CONTEST

Congratulations to our wonderful client, Stewart, who won the 3 bottles of wine made by Todd. He said, “The rose’ was great! The red too. The white was good, but I preferred the rose’ over it.” We must add that most people (including Todd’s wife) think the rose’ is the best too.
