When shipping a valuable commodity, please consider adding additional insurance to cover the entire value of your freight.
Generally, carriers will cover only up to a certain amount of liability and the payouts will be considered in the $1-$4 per-lb rule. This means that if your freight weighs 200 lbs and this carrier pays out $2/lb, the maximum payout you will get for standard liability is $400, even if the freight is much more valuable than that. This quote screen
shows you where you can find the carrier’s maximum liability:
These liability limits are based on weight, not value. If you want to fully cover the value of the freight, you can click the blue “add insurance” button under the liability column, or add in the value on the quote screen:
By adding insurance, you will be provided with a rate that includes full coverage of the value. Meaning that if a claim is filed, the damage will be paid out in full by an outside insurance company.
