When using the system, depending on the lane, you may notice that directly under the price it will either say “Interline” or “Direct Point”. This is a key detail that should be used when selecting a carrier.
In the image on the left, you will notice that both carriers are ” Est 3 days transit” times. However, one is interlined and the other is a direct point. When freight moves interline, it means that one carrier will make the pick up, but a completely different carrier will make the delivery. The carrier can change depending on the lane, but not every carrier will always be an interline. This is a great option to help reduce costs, but keep in mind that this now involves another move or two. The carrier now has to store the freight until the delivering terminal can make the pick up and continue the freight along its route. This usually adds at least one more day to the estimated transit time. This can expose a freight to delays and possible damages. Please understand that this is the exception, but we want you to be made aware when considering this option.
When a carrier shows as a “Direct Point”, it means they will be handling the freight from pickup to delivery themselves. There are no extra stops or steps when the freight is en-route. Depending on how quickly you need your freight delivered and the level of its importance and value, this may be the better option. Anytime you have a high value shipment, please consider adding the additional insurance. If you have freight that needs to arrive by a specific day, we stress the use of our guarantee options.
