MAY

As we head into the summer freight season, the market is feeling different than it did this time last year. We’re seeing capacity tighten in every region of the country causing prices to rise with the continued rise of diesel prices. This will continue to bring more volatility on spot freight, tighter lead times on key lanes, and increased pressure from shippers. At the same time, many carriers are still operating lean after the past few years, which means service and communication will matter more than ever.We remain as dedication and focus to staying proactive, communicating early, and helping customers navigate the day-to-day volatile challenges as ever. Whether rates are moving up, capacity gets tight, or schedules suddenly change, the goal remains the same, to support out clients and find solutions. We’re looking forward to a busy summer ahead and to helping make it smoother for our clients and the freight the move every day.

Why Is Some Freight Suddenly Harder to Cover?

One trend we’re continuing to see across the FTL and LTL market leading up to this summer is that freight movement isn’t as predictable as it used to be. Transit times are shifting, certain lanes are becoming harder to cover and many shippers are finding that what worked six months ago no longer guarantees the same cost or service today. A large part of this comes from how lean the transportation market has become over the past couple of years. Many carriers reduced equipment, exited the market, or became more selective about the freight they accept. The result is longer lead times in some truckload markets, increased volatility on spot freight, and more challenges around reliable scheduled LTL pick up/deliveries.

Carriers continue balancing terminal operations, managing staffing issues and adjusting routes to improve efficiency. That can mean frustrating unexpected service delays, higher costs, or transit schedules that fluctuate more than customers are used to seeing. On the truckload side, freight that once took one or two calls to cover may now require higher cost and faster decision-making to secure reliable carrier.

That’s where positive communication becomes one of the biggest factors in successful support from our team and your freight operations. Problems manifest when communication comes late and not necessarily when the disruption itself happens. Early updates, realistic expectations, proactive tracking, and contingency planning make the difference between a manageable delay and a major operational issue.

Our focus has always been building solutions by staying proactive with customer communication before small issues become larger ones. Whether it’s finding capacity in difficult lanes, navigating LTL service challenges, or creating backup options when schedules shift, our goal is to provide solutions using consistency and visibility.

Summer months have always been some of the busiest, but this isn’t your usual summer. Having the right logistics partner can make the challenges and rising complexities far more manageable.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Even though Todd’s beloved Florida Panthers aren’t making a playoff run this year for the first time in quite a while, hockey season is still very much alive in his world.

Todd has been officiating ice hockey for nearly a decade and playing the game himself for close to twenty years, but his newest role has quickly become his favorite: coaching his son’s hockey team.

What started as a way to spend more time together has grown into something far more rewarding than he expected. Beyond sharing the game with his son, Todd now helps guide 12 other young players, offering encouragement, development, and confidence both on and off the ice.

His coaching philosophy is simple: focus on the fundamentals. Todd believes that at every level of hockey, even among adults, players often overlook the small foundational skills that make the biggest difference over time. His goal is to help these kids build strong habits early so they can keep developing long after this season ends.
So far, the results have been incredible. The team is undefeated, with only a few ties along the way. Still, the wins aren’t what stands out most to Todd. Watching the kids grow, improve, and apply what they’ve learned week after week has been the real highlight.

And seeing his son look over to him on the bench for guidance every game? That might top it all.
