We haven’t sent out many newsletters in recent years, and we’ve talked about Todd, the owner, even less. But here’s a quick update: Todd is still playing hockey, though these days he’s spending more time refereeing. This is role he enjoys just as much as playing.Officiating has opened doors to some unique and memorable experiences. Todd had the honor of officiating the Sled Hockey Nationals, an inspiring event featuring athletes who play using sleds due to mobility challenges. He also officiated the USA Hockey Disabled Veterans Nationals this year—another meaningful opportunity that he described as an honor to do so.

One of his favorite experiences was officiating a Florida Panthers inter-squad scrimmage just before preseason began a few years ago. Todd described it as a “fantasy camp”; even though he was paid to be there, he says he would have gladly paid for the chance to do it.

As incredible and humbling as those experiences have been, none compare to the joy of playing, coaching, teaching, and officiating hockey alongside his son. Sharing the game he loves with his son has been more rewarding than he ever imagined.

His son doesn’t quite have the patience to sit through a full game on TV; something that reminds Todd of himself at that age. They both would rather be participating playing the sport than watching. Recently, in what felt like an overnight choice, his son randomly became a Pittsburgh Penguins fan. While Todd may side-eye the choice (as any good Panther dad would), he’s simply grateful his son is excited about the sport. Simply put, he points out, “there are far worse teams he could have picked.”
