We hope you’re having a great month as kids are back to school and fall is slowly arriving. We are going on almost two years of our newsletter and we hope you have enjoyed them. We are always open for suggestions on how we can improve or what you would like to read, so please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Concealed Shortage/Damage
Freight that has missing or shortage concealed inside a shipment would be considered a concealed shortage claim. Unless this is reported directly to the carrier within 15 days of delivery, we have no recourse and winning a claim becomes near impossible.
Due to liability issues, the GlobalTranz Claims Department cannot report concealed damages directly to the carrier. All concealed damage or un-noted shortage must be reported to the carrier within 15 calendar days of the shipment delivery and by one of the following:
shipper
consignee
customer
Concealed damage is any damage observed to the freight that was not provided in writing on the delivery receipt. It is important to understand that you are not filing a claim, but that you are only reporting to the carrier’s OS&D department that concealed damage/shortage occurred on your shipment.
It is always a good idea to take specific notes when calling a carrier. Any of the following is what you might want to keep records of when informing the carrier:
Whom you spoke to, location, and title
Date the carrier was notified
Please ensure to provide the above information on the claim form. Concealed damage must be reported to the carrier prior to a claim being sent to GlobalTranz to file. Claim forms received with reported concealed damage will be filed with the carrier for 1/3 of the manufacture invoice amount of the damaged product. We cannot guarantee payment from the carrier in this amount but will make all attempts. Concealed damage claims in which the carrier is not notified within 15 calendar days of delivery will not be filed by GlobalTranz as carriers will not agree to any compensation in this circumstance.
It is critical that the consignee notates any damage on the delivery receipt as recourse is very limited for shipments without written damage notated on the delivery receipt. Unless this was reported directly to the carrier within 15 days of delivery, we have no recourse and cannot file a claim.
